Over the past year or so, the Obama campaign has evoked a lot of hype
and enthusiasm to designers and creatives alike. I've yet to meet a
colleague in my field who hasn't been inspired by either the aesthetic
of his campaign or respectful of those who have chosen to utilize their
artistic talents to support the cause. I just came across spellingchange.com,
a website developed by a group of creative professionals to spread
awareness and passion about the Obama campaign. My chosen word is
inspiration. What's yours?
What has happened to our standards?! I don't want to use this blog as a ranting outlet but I think I'm so disgusted right now that I can't really wrap my head around what people in this country are thinking. The morning after the Palin/Biden debate, every media outlet had their spins in place on the "good debate" Palin delivered. First off, I'd hardly call her memorization of scripted talking points a debate. Secondly, how can anyone buy into the winking and cute, folksy lingo? It's borderline obnoxious and completely insulting. My friend Chris couldn't have summed it up better for me — "Look, I'm educated and I read the news. I know WTF is going on so quit talking to me like I'm a checker at Wal Mart. Talk to me like you think I should consider you an experienced executive who is capable of running the free world."
I feel that we have finally fallen so far as a country if this is the best we can do. With that being said, let me share with you this gem I found this evening:
That's what we're up against. To appear somewhat civil on this blog, I won't get into the adjectives floating around my head right now to describe the ignorance in our country that puts us into the situations we're finding ourselves in today. Instead, I'll leave you with Joe Klein's commentary today on the "craziness on the Republican side":

Better to Be...

"a guy of the street" than a guy of the gutter.
But seriously, folks, I'm beginning to worry about the level of craziness on the Republican side, the over-the-top, stampede-the-crowd statements by everyone from McCain on down, the vehemence of the crowds that McCain and Palin are drawing with people shouting "Kill him" and "He's a terrorist" and "Off with his head."
Watch the tape of the guy screaming, "He's a terrorist!" McCain seems to shudder at that, he rolls his eyes... and I thought for a moment he'd admonish the man. But he didn't. And now he's selling the Ayres non-story full-time. Yes, yes, it's all he has. True enough: he no longer has his honor. But we are on the edge of some real serious craziness here and it would be nice if McCain did the right thing and told his more bloodthirsty supporters to go home and take a cold shower. But McCain hasn't done the right thing all year. His campaign is appalling, as the New York Times editorial board said today--and more, it is a national disgrace.

[via Pitchfork] Kind of a Day of the Dead feel to Clyde Petersen-directed animation for Offend Maggie's "Chandelier Searchlight". There's some robot dude, lots of bones, skies filled with crows, and other assorted harbingers of doom.
Chicago toy store Rotofugi has a really cool video/commercial titled the Collectors that I just came across. Kinda makes you question, what if we were all a part of someone's collection?
