The 2008 Summer Olympic Games kicked off last night in Beijing at the National Stadium. I missed the opening ceremonies but from what I can tell (from the photography I'm finding online), it looked pretty incredible.
I meant to post this a few weeks ago but now seems more appropriate — I'm really digging some of the marketing associated with the Olympic games which are based upon the traditional Chinese folklore 'Journey to the West. I especially like the following animation, produced by Jamie Hewlett (Tank Girl, Gorillaz) along with music by Damon Albarn (Blur and Gorillaz).
And lastly (for today ;)) — damn you, Nike. As much as I'd like to dislike you, this commercial gives me goose bumps (I'm a sucker for these sappy sports-related events). I mean, come on, Steve Prefontaine is featured in the ad!
