Playing with words: Fujiya & Miyagi's Knickerbocker
New video for Fujiya and Miyagi's Knickerbocker, off their forthcoming album Lightbulbs. Every lyric gets corresponding, literal imagery. Nice! [via stereogum]

CMJ has confirmed the first round of performers and programming for daytime panels for the 2008 CMJ Music Marathon.
Remember when we were all hyped up over Linzie Hunter's spam project a while back? Well, here's something else to get excited about: Chronicle Books is publishing it, titled Secret Weapon Postcard Book and they're giving you a chance to win one of 3 copies of it here by sharing your favorite spam email.
Cut Chemist - 1st Big Break from eyestorm on Vimeo.
There are several things that make this video awesome:
1. It is a video for Cut Chemist 2. It is the first music video ever shot with a 360 degree panoramic lens 3. It stars robots
It's directed by motion graphics designer Kyle Ruddick (who, sadly, I can't find a website for). Anyway, check it out, it's great fun.
Those who know me, know of my bag obsession. I don't even want to think about how much of my money went to Brooklyn Industries these last few years. But move over B.I., I may be late to the scene, but I've just discovered TRKFLD and I think I just may have to test one out (is there any coincidence that they have a bag named after my initials and another after my grandmother which, just so happens to be the nickname of my best friend's baby girl?) However, I made a strict rule for myself that I can no longer purchase anything until after my move (my amazon wish list is taunting me) but as soon as I get settled, the below bag will be at the top of my list.
Oh, and they have a blog, check 'em out.
from Gambit Weekly:
Loyola University's Collins C. Diboll art gallery curator Karoline
Schleh invited artists to submit works of any sort provided that the
medium was graphite on paper. The end result is this Pencil and Paper
expo with a wide variety of styles and subjects by more than
three-dozen artists from New Orleans and beyond, including Daniela
Marx's Desiderata (pictured).
Exhibition dates: May 20 - September 18, 2008 Closing Reception: Thursday, September 18, 5-8 p.m.
24-year-old New Orleans native, Kimberly Roberts, purchased a Sony Handycam off the street for twenty bucks a week before Katrina. Her goal was to document what she witnessed daily in her Ninth Ward neighborhood — crime, drugs, murder. She and her husband, Scott, weren't able to escape the storm and the subject matter for her cause changed entirely. The film follows the Robertses through the storm and their struggle to recover after.
The film is a feature-length documentary and is produced by Brooklyn-based filmmakers Carl Deal and Tia Lessin (who also produced Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine) and has won the Grand Jury Prize for documentaries at the Sundance Film Festival. Opens in New York and L.A. on August 22 with a nationwide release to follow.
Since we're on the topic of the Olympics today, I thought I'd post a link to RememberTibet.org. This initiative was started by Jonathan Barnbrook and Pedro Inoue designed to engage people during (and after) the Beijing Olympic Games through art and design to help raise awareness of China's policies towards Tibet. The 2008 Summer Olympic Games kicked off last night in Beijing at the National Stadium. I missed the opening ceremonies but from what I can tell (from the photography I'm finding online), it looked pretty incredible.
I meant to post this a few weeks ago but now seems more appropriate — I'm really digging some of the marketing associated with the Olympic games which are based upon the traditional Chinese folklore 'Journey to the West. I especially like the following animation, produced by Jamie Hewlett (Tank Girl, Gorillaz) along with music by Damon Albarn (Blur and Gorillaz).
And lastly (for today ;)) — damn you, Nike. As much as I'd like to dislike you, this commercial gives me goose bumps (I'm a sucker for these sappy sports-related events). I mean, come on, Steve Prefontaine is featured in the ad!
